TWO Keighley-district schools have won Government cash for improvements.

St Anne's RC Primary in Keighley and South Craven School at Cross Hills are sharing in a region-wide £24.8 million pot.

Seventy-eight schools and sixth-form colleges throughout Yorkshire and the Humber are benefitting from the funds, for building upgrades and expansions.

South Craven School has been awarded £540,000 to replace temporary classrooms.

Headteacher Dr Andrew Cummings said: "We are delighted that our bid for a new three-classroom teaching block has been successful.

"The block will allow us to remove three temporary classrooms and provide students and staff with a quality environment in which to work."

St Anne's School, in North Street, has received £61,000 to replace its heating system.

"We're very pleased," said a spokesman.

"The current system is extremely dated and this funding will enable us to install much-needed new boilers."

The cash is from the Government's Condition Improvement Fund.

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said: "Every child should be taught in surroundings which allow them to fulfil their potential and we have made significant investments in school buildings to ensure this happens.

"The latest funding will help us to build on our progress, so that even more pupils and teachers have access to safe, high-quality classrooms."
