TWENTY Triple Science students at a Barnoldswick high school attended a science seminar at Leeds City Hall.
The Year 10 pupils at West Craven High School heard five of the world’s leading scientists share the relevance of their subject in today’s ever-changing world.
Firstly Dr Simon Singh talked through how hidden science and maths is presented in prime time television programmes such as the Simpsons because the writers come from science and maths backgrounds.
Dr Kate Lancaster then talked students through the problems of non-renewable energy and how scientists like herself were trying to combat the effects of global warming and create sustainable, renewable energy.
Professor Robert Winston shared his research into IVF treatments and how he and his team have been trying to make the chances of conceiving higher in females so they no longer require IVF treatments.
Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock whisked students into outer space as she shared her research into finding out about neighbouring stars and planets in the galaxy, but in other galaxies too.
The last speaker was Professor Dave Cliff, an expert in computer sciences. He shared at least two ways that budding computer scientists could make their millions and how quickly technology advances year on year.
