FOUR West Craven seats are up for grabs in the Pendle Council elections taking place on May 5.

Across Pendle, there will be elections in 16 borough council wards, including two wards in Barnoldswick and one in Earby.

In Barnoldswick's Craven ward, residents will be able to choose two people from a pool of six candidates after Liberal Democrat Richard Milner recently resigned as a councillor due to work commitments.

In the 2015 elections, Mr Milner won the seat from Conservative Jennifer Purcell, of Gisburn Road in Barnoldswick, who is in the running this year to regain a place on the council.

Liberal Democrat Ken Hartley, of Robinson Court, Richmond Road, Barnoldswick, will be looking to keep his seat on the council.

The other Liberal Democrat representative is Anthony Lancaster, of Coates Avenue, Barnoldswick, while Conservative Valerie Langtree, of Higher Lane, Salterforth, will be looking to return as a councillor for Pendle.

Richard Oliver, of Montrose Terrace, Barnoldswick, will represent the UK Independence Party (UKIP), while Mark Porter, of Hollin Fold, Blacko, will be the Labour Party candidate.

In the Coates ward, the Liberal Democrat representative is current councillor Marjorie Adams, of Windsor Place, Barnoldswick, who faces a challenge from three candidates.

Harry Purcell, of Gisburn Road, Barnoldswick, who is the husband of Jennifer Purcell, is representing the Conservative Party in the ward.

Jane Wood, of Rainhall Crescent, Barnoldswick, is standing for the Green Party and Ghulam Ullah, of Chapel Street, Nelson, is the Labour candidate.

In the Earby ward, current Conservative councillor Rosemary Carroll, of Cemetery Road, Earby, will be looking to defend her seat from two challengers.

Ian Lyons, of Victoria Road, Earby, is the candidate for the Liberal Democrats and Russell Tennant, of Woodside Terrace, Nelson, is the representative for the Labour Party.

* Five candidates will contest the Craven seat on Bradford Council next month.

The ward – which covers Addingham, Eastburn, Steeton and Silsden – is currently represented by Adrian Naylor (Independent), from Silsden, who is seeking re-election.

In 2012, he took the seat with just over 40 per cent of the vote.

This time, he faces a challenge from Labour's Val Carroll, who also lives in Silsden; Conservative hopeful Peter Clarke, from Haworth; Liberal Democrat Gerald Ebden, of Eastburn; and Green Party representative Peter Ferguson, from Ilkley.
