EARBY will light one of thousands of beacons across the UK to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday last this month.

Earby Town Council is inviting everyone to gather at 7pm next Thursday, April 21, for a torchlight procession from Springfield Primary School turning circle in Bailey Street.

The procession will go up to the picnic site on Bleara Moor, where the town's beacon will be lit at 8pm by town council chairman, Cllr Chris Tennant, and Barbara Knock, a former town councillor who shares the same birthday as The Queen.

Ministers from Earby and District Churches Together will say for prayers for Her Majesty and Cllr Tennant will read a message from the Prince of Wales just before the beacon is lit.

Earby Brass Band will also play, and they will lead a rendition of Happy Birthday.

A display of fireworks will follow the ceremony before the return torchlight journey back to the starting point.
