CRAVEN haulier Longthorne’s of Hebden has announced expansion plans with the purchase of new vehicles using funding from Barclays.

Longthorne’s of Hebden was established in 1928 by Herbert Longthorne and is still a family-owned business, run by brothers Mark, Gordon and Jonathan Longthorne who operate more than 30 trucks both in the UK and overseas

They specialise in hauling both aggregates and livestock as well as acting as a merchant for the sale of quarry products.

The new funding has enabled the purchase of three new HGVs, two tippers and two trailers.

Partner Gordon Longthorne said: “We already have 30 trucks ranging from ten through to 30-tonne vehicles but wanted expand the fleet and make sure we provide a first-class service for our customers. The new vehicles will increase capacity and also ensure we operate in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way that we can, supporting our long term growth plans.”

Longthorne’s of Hebden employs 35 people and turnover for the current year is expected to exceed £5 million. Its distinctive blue liveried fleet is a regular feature on Craven roads.

Nick Aldridge, relationship director at Barclays, put together the funding package for the deal and said: “It’s great to be able to support a local business that is thriving and expanding for the future. Mark, Gordon and Jonathan operate a brilliant family-run business and the future looks bright for this ambitious business.”
