GARGRAVE Village Hall will hold an open day next Friday, April 29 - to coincide with the Tour de Yorkshire passing through the village.

The hall was officially opened on Valentine's Day in 1959 by Col JC Preston, of Flasby Hall, after a former Victorian laundry was transformed into a modern centre for village activities thanks to the generosity of Coulthurst Trust.

The current management committee has recently overseen extensive re-decoration and upgrading of the facilities and has decided that the Tour de Yorkshire is an ideal time to showcase the improvements.

The hall is home to dance, art, yoga, tai chi, and Pilates classes, with indoor bowling sessions held during the winter months. There is also an over 60s section that meets each week.

Representatives from some of the groups will be available to answer questions and there will also be a display of Gargrave Village Hall memorabilia.

The hall will be open from 10am to 6pm and homemade refreshments of bacon sandwiches, toasted teacakes and cakes will be available all day.

The cycle race is due to pass through the village around 3.30pm.
