TWO long-serving members of South Craven Scouts have been awarded special national Distinguished Service awards.

Between them, Phil Probst and Dave Viney have given more than 90 years’ service to the Scout movement.

Phil joined 5th Skipton Scouts as a cub 39 years ago. A former Scout District Commissioner, he is currently local training manager for South Craven. He has been awarded the Silver Acorn medal.

Dave joined as a cub in South Yorkshire 52 years ago and is the current District Commissioner. He received the Silver Acorn with Bar.

They were presented with their awards by Skipton Town Mayor, Cllr Gordon Bell, in a ceremony in the council chamber at Skipton Town Hall.

As recipients of the awards, Dave and Phil were invited to attend the scout movement’s National St George’s Day Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Sunday.
