A POLICE officer has told a jury there was "an overpowering smell" in the room of an elderly resident with dementia at Highdell Nursing Home, Idle.
Eight staff - including the Addingham manager - deny one count of wilful neglect of a person who lacks capacity.
DC Channah Rotherforth went to Highdell Nursing Home in Idle on December 19, 2013, to investigate an allegation that Edward Hinnells, 79, had been assaulted.
DC Rotherforth said she went to fetch a camera and took photographs of the room.
She said her colleague opened a window but Mr Hinnells objected and it was closed again.
DC Rotherforth said she alerted Bradford Council to her concerns about Mr Hinnells, who was moved from the home on December 30.
On trial are: Stephen Pelkowski, 51, the manager of Highdell, of Lodge Hill, Addingham; Jennifer Cross, 60, a senior care assistant, of The Green, Idle; Phillippa Robinson, 57, a senior nurse and registered mental health nurse, of Hall Royd, Shipley; Nicki Kassama, 30, a carer, of Wrose Mount, Wrose; Valerie James, 58, a senior carer, of Stonegate Road, Eccleshill; Desmond Crowley, 59, a staff nurse and registered mental health nurse, of Hazelhurst Brow, Daisy Hill, Bradford; Gerard McDermott, 58, a registered mental health nurse, of Maria Street, Ilkley; and Piotr Czajkowski, 49, a cleaner, of Ravenscliffe Avenue, Ravenscliffe.
