AS excitement mounts ahead of the arrival of the Tour de Yorkshire in Craven tomorrow, residents of Settle have been taking a close look at the race's distinctive Y-shaped trophy.

Children from Settle Church of England Primary School and Settle College have had their photographs taken with the trophy, and it was also on display for members of the public at Settle Railway Station and Settle Tourist Information Centre.

And, as reported elsewhere in the paper, the town has gone to town decorating its buildings.

Particularly noteworthy is the ET creation that has sprung up on the side of the Ye Olde Naked Man Cafe, run by Paul and Karen Strickland.

It was created by members of their family.

"Everyone seems to love it," said Karen. "Depending on the weather, it will probably stay up until the building is painted towards the end of the year."

Stage one of the race starts in Beverley and ends in Settle, and the town is expecting thousands of visitors for the finish.

The race also goes through Grassington, Threshfield, Cracoe, Gargrave and Hellifield and Long Preston, with a 10km loop through Giggleswick before the finish at about 4.30pm.
