ALTHOUGH the weather was dull and chilly on May Day, there was plenty to smile about at the Castle Inn at Skipton.
It hosted a display of traditional May Day celebrations, with singers, dancers, musicians and mummers capturing the joyful spirit of the occasion.
The May Day singers and musicians performed carols which are rarely heard, but deserve a wider audience, as well as Thomas Morley’s madrigal Now is the Month of Maying.
Cononley Morris, a new and growing Morris side, performed some of their dances in the Cotswold tradition, using sticks and hankies to emphasise the flowing movements of the dance.
Grassington's Penny Plain Theatre Company amused the audience with its usual mixture of chaos and enthusiasm and Lancashire and Cheshire Clog Dancing Champion, Carrie Davies, gave a sparkling demonstration of Lancashire clog dances.
