TALKING newspaper Craven Cassette is looking for three regular helpers - as well as new blind or partially sighted listeners.

The charity, which has been providing regular audio recordings of the Craven Herald and Dalesman magazine for more than 38 years, needs a new secretary, who would take the minutes at three evening meetings a year and deal with any follow-up correspondence.

And it is also searching for a person to help every five weeks or so with reproducing the recordings - a task which is done either on Friday afternoon/evening or a Saturday morning - and someone to listen to available recordings on blind person issues to download from the internet.

Richard Breare, chairman of Craven Cassettes, said: "The duties are hardly onerous and what we produce gives great pleasure to blind and partially sighted people, keeping them in touch with what is happening in the community.

"In this time of austerity here is an opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives without having to put your hand in your pocket."

The charity also wants to increase listener numbers and will demonstrate the service at a pre-arranged time to suit the listener and any carer.

Anyone interested in either volunteering or signing up for the service should contact Mr Breare on 01756 794298 or email him at r.breare@btopenworld.com

Meanwhile everyone is invited to Craven Cassette's annual general meeting at Skipton's Herriots Hotel on Wednesday, June 8, at 7pm.
