AN Earby woman became Pendle’s first citizen during the annual mayor making ceremony at Nelson Town Hall last Thursday.

Councillor Rosemary Carroll, 58, has represented the Earby ward as a councillor for the past four years and was re-elected in this month’s local elections.

Cllr Carroll was born in Keighley and moved to Pendle at the age of five, living in Nelson, Colne and Kelbrook before moving to Earby four years ago.

She is self-employed, running a small printing business from home with her husband.

“It is a great honour to be chosen as mayor,” said Cllr Carroll. “I’m looking forward to promoting what a great place Pendle is to live and work in.”

The new mayoress will be Cllr Carroll’s friend and former Pendle councillor, Carol Belshaw Goulthorp.

The mayoress will lead fundraising efforts for Pendle’s Samaritans, Pendle Dogs in Need, Pendle Women’s Refuge and Homestart.

Earby celebrated Cllr Carroll's appointment with a procession and church service on Sunday.
