SKIPTON Building Society workers swapped the office for the open air to walk 16 miles along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to raise money for charity.

The hike from Skipton to Saltaire took about seven hours and raised more than £1,000 for Down Syndrome Training and Support and Cancer Support Yorkshire.

And in addition to raising money for charities close to their hearts, it was an opportunity for people to get to know others from different departments.

Alison Davies, head of digital at SBS, said: “At Skipton, we wanted to take on a new challenge – one which would not only raise money for charities close to our hearts but would provide us with an opportunity to try something new, while getting to know our colleagues better.

“This sponsored walk ticked all of the boxes; it’s not easy but is very rewarding.

"All of the colleagues taking part have a great sense of achievement for completing it and I’m delighted and proud of them for raising £1,000 for extremely good causes.”
