A SKIPTON woman who went uninvited into a couple's home while they were asleep, has been given a six-month suspended prison sentence by magistrates.

Adele Evans, 39, knew the couple who live in Greatwood Avenue, but on April 10 went through an unlocked door, upstairs and into their bedroom house uninvited, Skipton magistrates were told.

After waking them, she was escorted out of the house, but on her way, she stole a Samsung mobile phone, the court heard.

She still had the phone when the police went to her home in Sawley Street later and it was returned to its rightful owner.

Evans, who admitted burglary, knew the couple socially and had attended parties at the house, the court was told.

In mitigation, Keith Blackwell said it was an unusual burglary in that she had entered the house as a trespasser and she had stolen a phone, but tshe knew the couple and they had not suffered any trauma.

He added she had been fully co-operative with the police, had felt disgusted with herself, but had been in difficult circumstances at the time.

Following a pre-sentence report, Evans was jailed for 24 weeks, but was told it would be suspended for two years. She will also have to carry out 30 days rehabilitation activity requirement, which magistrates told her would hopefully assist her in her current problems. She will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £115.
