ONE of the most beautifully located car parks in the country – with a panorama over the River Wharfe – is up for sale.

Letting it go after 21 years of "loving every minute of it" are Ed and Brenda Williams, who bought Burnsall Green car park in May 1995, beating off potential buyers from throughout the country.

Ed said: "You can't have a better place to work in England – opening up, sitting with the paper and a coffee looking out over this scene."

"And it's been fascinating meeting all the different people. But we've had our time here now and want to enjoy travelling, so it's time to sell," added Ed, who is the Craven Herald's Burnsall correspondent and also reports on Wharfedale Rugby Club.

Michael Westlake, of Skipton-based chartered surveyors, Westlake & Co, said: "The location is breathtaking, being alongside the river in this prettiest of Dales villages.

"The joy of a car park-orientated business is that it needs little supervision other than emptying the cash box on a regular basis.

"I handled the sale 21 years ago when Ed bought it by tender, and at the time it attracted interest from all over the country."

The car park has a capacity of 70 vehicles and is surfaced and marked, with a coin-operated entry and exit barrier. It is open throughout the year and costs £4 a day for each vehicle.

There is a kiosk, open at weekends and full time from February to October, where people can buy snacks, and there is a nearby toilet block held on lease from Craven District Council at £1 a year. There is no charge for using the lavatory and people are invited to contribute to a 'thank you' box.

The sale is by informal private tender on July 8. Visit westlakeandco.co.uk or e-mail info@westlakeandco.co.uk for more details.
