DYNELEY House Surgery in Skipton has received national recognition for its proactive self-care programmes.

The GP practice has been highly commended as part of the national Self Care Week awards, which took place earlier this month.

As the only GP practice to be shortlisted, it was praised for its involvement in Self Care Week, which took place in November last year on the theme of self-care for life.

The awards were judged by joint chairmen of the Self Care Forum, Dr Pete Smith and Dr Selwyn Hodge, who praised the team approach at the practice and its ‘well planned’ programme of events.

They were particularly impressed with the work that had focussed on teenagers’ health.

Events were held each day during Self Care Week, and practice staff worked with specific patient groups to increase the impact of their activities.

Dyneley House practice manager, Antony Radley, said: “Self-care week represents a fantastic opportunity for us to support patients to manage their own conditions and take responsibility for improving their own health by exercising or healthier eating.

“We were flattered to be recognised by the Self Care Forum and look forward to this year’s Self Care Week, which will focus on health literacy.”

Since November, the practice has continued its proactive healthy wellbeing programme with a series of events and activities, and has provided regular peer support groups for stroke survivors and people with diabetes.
