ORGANISERS of Fallfest believe the annual Glusburn arts festival will break all its records this year.

Highlights of the extravaganza will include classic movie Metropolis, a symphony concert, a Steven Berkoff play, birds of prey, brass bands and a bake-off.

The Fallfest team believes this eclectic line-up will surpass even last year’s sell-out appearance by Kildwick-born jazz superstar, Clare Teal.

Organised by volunteers, the arts, film and music festival will, as usual, be based in and around Glusburn Institute from September 9 to 11.

Fallfest begins on the Friday evening with Steven Berkoff comedy play Dahling You Were Marvellous, directed by Rebecca Durham.

Rebecca said: “Fallfest is very much a community-based festival and we seek to actively involve the community.

“We are inviting actors 15 years and over to audition for the cast. Auditions will be held on July 2 at 10am at the Institute.”

Saturday sees the repeat of the 'renowned' farmers' market, featuring a cornucopia of stalls and entertainment.

There will be music from Sutton’s Got Brass and Silsden Town Band, the Great Fallfest Bake-Off, craft beers, hog roast, a birds of prey display, children’s activities and stalls.

The afternoon will feature the Fallfest’s first five-mile race across the fields and up to the pinnacles above Sutton and Cowling.

This year’s Saturday evening gala event will be a Film-harmonic performed by Airedale Symphony Orchestra, with guest Kathleen Wilkinson from the Royal Opera House.

Festival director, Sue Ingham, said: “The orchestra will be performing themes from well-known films, from Pirates Of The Caribbean and Harry Potter through to Dambusters and James Bond.

“We are launching the event with a pre-show 'meal at Oscars’.”

Sunday is aimed at film buffs, with an interactive workshop entitled ‘007 – Has The World Had Enough?’.

Sue added: “Led by Catherine Owens, formerly of BBC production, the session will appeal to film aficionados and media students alike.

“Fallfest is also extremely fortunate to present a revamp of Fritz Laing’s 1927 classic Metropolis. Featuring a bespoke score commissioned by the British Film Institute and written and performed live by Affen and Smithson, this score creates a unique landscape to complement a classic precursor of a sci-fi/futuristic genre.”
