THREE West Craven primary schools took part in the 2016 Pendle Schools’ Festival.

The festival, held June 13 to June 18 at the Muni in Colne, featured over 670 young people from 22 primary schools and two high schools in Pendle. There were also performances by the Arden Angels’ Choir and Pendle Gymnastics Group.

Five to six schools performed each evening, and the festival finished with a Massed Music Night which featured "The Story of the Musicals".

Wendy Harvey, chairman of the Pendle Schools' Festival Committee, said: "The massed choir of children from six schools told the story of the development of musicals from the turn of the century when musicals were born to 2016 and the modern musicals that we all know and love."

Barnoldswick C of E Primary School presented excerpts from the cantata “One Planet Future”.

St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Barnoldswick brought two musical items to the festival, a windband and a choir.

The young people from Earby Springfield Primary School presented a poetry item, the first ever performed at the festival.

Earby and St Joseph’s pupils were also involved in the massed choir, which was conducted by two teachers from West Craven, Shirley Cockroft and Pam Kemp.

Earby Springfield children performed a dance, which took the audience back to the 1980s and the musical film “Fame”.

The event ended with the massed choir and the Arden Angels singing “Hallelujah”, a song from the musical “Shrek”.
