SKIPTON Horse Trials enjoyed fine and dry weather for most of its two days during the weekend.

Despite threatening skies, rain held off until late afternoon on Sunday, when most of the competitors had finished.

Riders from all over the North took part in the premier grassroots British Eventing-affiliated competition, which included showjumping, dressage and cross country.

Helped along by an army of more than a hundred volunteers, the event was also a chance for all to experience an exciting equestrian event – and even take the dog along.

The event was also a chance for equine staff and students from Craven College to compete and to volunteer.

Student, Josh Atkinson, had a successful day on his horse, Another Chance III, while college yard manager, Samantha Harsley, won her BE90 class on her horse Miami Exclusive (Mia), an eight-year-old Bay mare, whose sire is the well-known event stallion, Jumbo.

“Mia has been made even more special to me with a win on Sunday at the Skipton Horse Trials," said Sam.

Her win means the pair qualify for a BE90 regional final. Sam is hopeful for another win at the regionals, which would mean a ticket to compete at the Badminton Horse Trials.

Preparations are now underway for the second event of the year, which will again take place at Heslaker Farm, off the A59 between Skipton and Broughton, on August 6 and 7.
