POLICE investigating a death in Glusburn discovered a cannabis farm and £200,000 in cash, Skipton magistrates have heard.

When officers went to the detached property in Ryecroft Road on January 22 to investigate the death of its occupant, they were greeted with a strong smell of cannabis, the court was told.

The deceased, June Cox, shared the property with her grandson, Robert Daniels, whom it was revealed had been carrying out a sophisticated cannabis operation for six years.

Prosecutor, Martin Butterworth, said officers found four bedrooms inside the house that had been turned over to the cultivation of skunk cannabis plants. Sheets were fastened to walls, there were a large number of plants and, in addition, £200,000 in cash was discovered.

Daniels, 36, now of Onecliffe Mills in Stainland Road, Elland, Calderdale, admitted supplying cannabis between January 1, 2010 and January 22, 2016, and of its production between the same dates and at the same location. He further admitted the acquisition, use or possession of criminal property – more than £200,000.

Mr Butterworth described the offences as serious, not suitable for sentencing at the magistrates' court and indicated the judge at crown court would be looking at an immediate custodial sentence.

Magistrates agreed and told Daniels the offences were too serious to be dealt with at the magistrates' court, and sent him to Bradford Crown Court for sentencing on July 15. They also ordered that a pre-sentence report be prepared for the hearing.
