SKIPTON MP Julian Smith has welcomed a drop in unemployment figures.
Recently released figures show the number of unemployed is the lowest since 2005, with 2.5 million more people across the country in work compared to 2010.
In Yorkshire and Humber, there are 139,000 more people in work, and in Skipton and Ripon, the numbers claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) and Universal credit has fallen by 729 – a 66 per cent drop since 2010.
Mr Smith MP said: "The Government’s long-term plan is delivering more security, transforming life chances and providing opportunities that give families in Skipton and Ripon the best chance to get on in life.
"Each new job means workers and their families have the security of a pay packet."
