YOUNGSTERS at Giggleswick Junior School have been encouraged to take part in the summer reading challenge, which this year celebrates 100 years of Roald Dahl.

Helping to enthuse the pupils was librarian Catherine Barlow, from the North Yorkshire Library Service, who told them all about how to get involved in the challenge, called The Big Friendly Read.

Children from across the county are urged to read six library books or more during the summer holidays and collect special rewards to complete the challenge.

Giggleswick school librarian, Linda Evans, said: "Catherine’s enthusiastic session was just what we needed to get us thinking about all the books we could read duirng the long summer break."
