AN AWARD-winning Dales farm will be helping to celebrate and preserve Britain's threatened ancient wildflower meadows as part of National Meadows Day on Saturday.
Nethergill Eco Farm, at Oughtershaw, Buckden, is inviting people to take part in meadow walks and bug hunts to focus attention on the decline of wildflower fields. Only three per cent of those that existed in the 1930s remain today.
The farm, run by Chris and Fiona Clark, has gained a 'green tourism gold award' for 're-wilding' the land to create different habitats for flora, birds, fish, mammals and insect life.
There are 100 events taking place across the UK on Saturday as part of Save Our Magnificent Meadows, a partnership project supported by the National Lottery.
The scheme is bringing meadows back to life and is restoring 14,000 acres of wildflower meadows across the country.
Call 01756 761126 or e-mail fiona.clark@nethergill.co.uk to book for the Nethergill event.
