VISITORS to Malham only have until the end of the month to get up close to the Cove's popular pair of peregrine falcons.

For the 14th year running, the RSPB and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) staff and volunteers have been running a free viewpoint, where visitors can watch the spectacular birds in action through high-powered telescopes.

It opened in March, but will close on July 31 before re-opening again next spring.

RSPB face to face area manager, Jon Carter, said: “These famously fast falcons have provided hours of pleasure for the people watching them.

"The birds are a fantastic presence at Malham Cove and thousands of people of all ages have taken the opportunity to get closer to them. With only two weeks to go until the viewpoint closes, we hope many more visitors will come and enjoy seeing the peregrine activity – it certainly adds extra value and excitement to a day exploring the area.”

The viewpoint is open Saturday to Wednesday, from 10.30am to 4.30pm (weather permitting) until July 31.
