THE retiring headteacher of Ermysted's Grammar School in Skipton has bid pupils and parents a fond farewell.

In a final letter to parents and carers, Graham Hamilton, who left the school at the start of the summer holidays, said being headteacher of Ermysted's had been the "pinnacle of my career" and that he had enjoyed it immensely.

"The opportunity to have a positive influence on the lives of young people has been a privilege, and my thanks to all parents of pupils past and present for entrusting us with their sons," he added.

"During their time here, we see them develop into fine young men – confident, respectful, hardworking and articulate. Our partnership with parents is crucial – you give us the raw materials, we simply add that extra bit of polish – but between us we can be richly proud of our achievements."

Mr Hamilton said the respect and support of students and parents, their co-operation and friendship, had made his job a great deal easier.

Mr Hamilton will be replaced by Michael Evans, formerly of St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School in Kent, who will join the school in September.

Mr Hamilton said: "I leave the school in safe hands with Mr Evans, who will take the school on to the next stage of its development. I wish the students every success in the future and hope they feel as proud of their time here as I do. "
