A SCHEME to convert Skipton guesthouse Chinthurst to 'multiple occupancy use' is being recommended for approval next week.

Owner, Phil Smith, wants approval for the conversion of the guesthouse in Otley Road to 12 individual units served by two communal kitchens, a laundry room and private, secure store rooms.

It is planned that four will be on the ground floor and four on the first floor, while an existing manager's flat on the second floor will also be converted to two bedsits.

It is intended that the rooms will be used by 'young executives', properties for whom there is believed to be a demand in the town.

Craven District Council has received 14 responses objecting to the plans on the grounds of loss of privacy, the de-valuing of neighbouring properties and highways safety issues. Objectors have also raised concerns about an increase in the number of rubbish bins and there being no need for such accommodation in the town.

The scheme is being recommended for approval on Monday at the council's planning committee.

Chinthurst was put up for sale last year.
