VOLUNTEERS at a Skipton-based charity are celebrating after getting a new minibus with cash from the Government.

Skipton and Craven Action for Disability (SCAD), based in Newmarket Street, has taken delivery of a Mercedes Sprinter bus, taking its current fleet to seven.

The vehicle has been provided by money from the Department of Transport's £25 million Community Transport Minibus Fund, introduced at the end of 2014 to help provide buses in rural and isolated areas.

SCAD chief executive, Roy Aldread, said: "Obviously, we are absolutely delighted as this will enable us to help more disabled people to get around.

"At the same time we have a problem in that we are desperately short of drivers at present. Two people have recently had to stand down because they had reached the age of 70. Anyone who could give us a few hours a week would be warmly welcomed, and full training will be given."
