STAFF and pupils at Grassington Primary School joined former teachers and pupils to remember a much-loved dinner lady - by doing the hokey-cokey.

The family of Christine Hawkins, who died earlier this year, presented a wooden memorial bench to the school, where she worked for more than 20 years.

Mrs Hawkins loved singing and dancing the hokey-cokey with the children at playtime.

Former headteacher Mary Douglass spoke about the many kindnesses and talents shown by Mrs Hawkins during her two decades at the school, and how she had often volunteered her help in the classroom.

The whole school got together to dance the hokey-cokey in the playground.

School administrator Fiona Hardaker said: "We are honoured to be the recipients of such a befitting memorial to a well-loved member of our school team.”

She also thanked Mrs Hawkins' family for donating the money raised at her funeral to the school, and Peter Merrell for making the bench.
