A 59 YEAR old woman died while walking the Pennine Way on Saturday.

The woman, who was walking south of Water Sinks on Malham Moor, was reported to have collapsed, unconscious, and having CPR at 3.55pm.

A small group of Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) members, who were with the team's display trailer at Malham Show, arrived on the scene, soon after the air ambulance and road ambulance.

A CRO spokesman said: "Sadly, resuscitation was unsuccessful. Once police approval had been received, the deceased was carried by stretcher to the road ambulance, with the assistance of her family. "

Meanwhile, another team of CRO volunteers were dealing with another incident at Storrs Common, near Ingleton.

A 54 year old woman tripped and injured her ankle at 3.20pm while walking the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail.

The spokesman said: "As it would not bear any weight, she was carried by stretcher to the road-head and, in the absence of an ambulance, assisted into the family car to be taken to hospital."
