COMPETITION has been fierce for the Accelerated Reader Trophy at West Craven High School, with students reading over 67 million words in a year.
Students in the reading scheme at the Barnoldswick school developed a friendly rivalry to achieve the highest word count over the last academic year.
The competition was designed to develop a love of reading and increase the students’ ability to read well.
Year 7 student, Lilly-Louise Halliwell was the trophy winner this year, coming out on top with 2,130,081 words read. Andrew McCaffrey and Natasha Seed came in second and third respectively; and each student received vouchers in recognition of their success.
Michael Hanson, Alan Hanson and Charley Berry were the top three readers in Year 8.
The Year 7 and Year 8 students taking part throughout the year read over 2,300 books.
