PENDLE Council’s Executive has agreed to continue funding an initiative that helps businesses in the borough.

Gearing up for Growth, which creates economic growth, helps local companies thrive, creates more job opportunities and supports and brings forward private sector investment, has benefited almost 200 business over the past four years.

Since 2012, 128 companies have received grants to help them start and 37 companies to expand creating 324 new jobs.

That is almost £550,000 of investment in the borough which has resulted in more than £1.5m of private sector investment.

Announcing that the scheme will be funded until 2019, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, who has responsibility for economic development, said: “Our Gearing up for Growth programme is a real success story.

“Over the past four years we’ve invested significantly in the scheme because it’s vital that we help our local economy to thrive and create more jobs.

"We’re doing all we can to keep those companies based here, support those who want to grow and encourage new ones to start.

"Previous grants have been taken up by a wide range of industries across Pendle, from aerospace to engineering and tourism.

“They’ve ranged from new machinery, software and premises improvements to equipment to help start up new engineering, catering and security businesses.”
