RESIDENTS of Horton-in-Ribblesdale are holding a public meeting to discuss the future of the village primary school on Wednesday, November 9, at 6.30pm.
The meeting takes place in the village hall, and residents will be asked to give their views on the possible closure. The school's governors are to decide whether to continue the closure consultation process. North Yorkshire County Council has said the school, which has just 18 pupils, is no longer viable and will close in April next year following the consultation with governors.
But parents have said they are determined to save it and are urging the council to look at alternatives such as bringing in children from other schools which are over-subscribed.
If it closes, it will mean pupils will have to travel to Austwick, five miles away, or Giggleswick, or Settle schools, both about six miles away.
