A SEA of red and white swamped Skipton on Sunday when hundreds of Father Christmases converged on Aireville Park to take on the Santa Run.

The 5k jog, which started and finished in the park, attracted 1,350 runners - and walkers - some arriving in town to take on the challenge from as far away as Milton Keynes and Inverness.

The seventh annual event, organised by Rotary Club of Skipton, was greeted by crowds of supporters lining the streets as the Santas "sped" their way around the park and out onto the streets of the town..

And they were also captured from above with a camera fitted to a drone to get spectacular images taken by John Jameson Photography.

Unfazed by the occasional spot of rain, the runners and walkers of all ages took part in aid of their own charities but the main recipients of money raised will be Manorlands Hospice at Oxenhope - it has been lead charity since the first race in 2010 - Yorkshire Cancer Research and Children's Heart Surgery Fund at Leeds General Infirmary.

Little Fudge, the "darling" dog on the Cancer Research stand made another appearance this year sporting his latest Santa togs.  George Garland, President of RC Skipton Craven, voiced a huge thank you to all those involved in planning the run, implementing it and clearing up afterwards.

He said: "Rotarians John Eddison and David Mitton were lead organisers but the whole Club of 35 members and their wives, partners and friends were involved in some way.  "There were generous sponsors who kindly gave of their time, equipment and money to make this special event another great success."

Andrew Wood of Manorlands Hospice, Myriam Barker of Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and Louise Robinson of Yorkshire Cancer Research were all delighted by the enthusiasm and generosity of the people of Skipton and beyond.
