CRAVEN Court in High Street, Skipton, was "jammed" on Thursday evening for the official launch of Christmas time.

For the second year running crowds of people converged on the shopping centre to enjoy the Christmas lights switch on which was sponsored by Skipton Bid.

Big crowd pullers were the fictional heroes Paw Patrol, who mingled with shoppers signing autographs for the youngsters.

And drawing in the adults with their Christmas music was Skipton Brass who performed at the entrance on High Street.

Once inside the Christmas theme was taken on by the youngsters of Greatwood School choir singing a variety of Christmas carols.

The Santa's Grotto was held in aid of the Skipton-based charity Harry's Star launched by Skipton hairdresser Claire Marsden following the death of her ten month-old son. So far she has raised £76,000 towards brain tumour research and support for victims and their families. And there was also a collection for Skipton Cancer Research.

Emma Marsden, the centre manager said: "It was a fantastic occasion. There was a real buzz around and the atmosphere was great. Everybody was full of the Christmas spirit.

"I think it was very successful. It's aim was to get people out to the shops in Skipton and remind them what a great place Skipton is to shop in."
