HELP from the Cave Rescue Organisation came in a different guise than usual at the Settle Christmas lights switch on.

When Santa's reindeer Rudolph became ill and couldn't pull pull his transport, the CRO stepped in and used one of their vehicles to do the job on Saturday, November 26.

Father Christmas remained unfazed and went on to open the event and greet all the children in his grotto with his helpers from the Rotary Club.

Entertainment was provided by local band Shrymp Inc.

There where 18 stalls in total for the event. Settle and Giggleswick primary schools performed the songs they have been learning at school.

Settle brass band rendered carols which heralded the lights switch-on followed by a spectacular fireworks display sponsored by Settle Town Council.

Amy Robinson, who helped organised the event said: " I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped our small group, all the sponsors without whom we wouldn't be able to put on the event and, most importantly, all the people who attended."

She especially thanked Christine Holdsworth and her team for putting up the tree in freezing conditions and The Tree Commission for providing the tree.

"I'd also like to thank Settle town council for sponsoring the fire works. I hope that you all enjoyed the event as much as

we did."

Santa will now be touring the Settle area, with visits planned in the Long Preston tomorrow, Hellifield on Monday and Tuesday, Langcliffe on Thursday, and Austwick on Friday.
