CURRENT or old cub scouts are invited to take part in a special centenary event in Skipton in the week before Christmas.

Organised by South Craven District Scouts, the event on Friday, December 16 to mark the centenary of cub scouting is open to anyone who has been a scout either now, or in the past.

The event, at Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, will include a renewal of promises and will also be a chance for people to share memories and memorabilia.

The ‘Renewal of Promises’ event will start at 6.30pm with the ceremony itself taking place at exactly 7.16pm – the precise time when a hundred years ago, Lord Baden-Powell launched the first ever 'Wolf-Cub' scout pack. Current cubs will renew their Cub-Scout 'Promise'.

District commissioner for South Craven Scouts, Dave Viney, said: “This is a very special anniversary for cub scouts across the country and we’d be delighted if anyone who might have been a cub at any time over the last hundred years would like to join us for the event. We’d also love to hear from anybody who might have any cub-scouting memorabilia – whether that be items of uniform, old photographs, badges, awards or certificates.”

A special display of memorabilia, charting the history of Cub-Scouting in Craven will form part of the event.

Anyone wanting further information about the event – or who may have any memorabilia - can contact Annette Metcalf by email to annettemetcalf911@gmail.com

Any items of memorabilia can also be left at the Skipton Town Council reception on the first floor of Skipton Town Hall. All items will be returned after the event.
