PUPILS and teachers at Skipton Girls' High School are celebrating after finishing in the top 100 of a national newspaper's guide to the best state schools in the country.

It is the second time in a row that the high school has finished towards the top of the table in the Sunday Times 2016 Parent Power guide.

Rankings in the secondary school league tables are determined by the percentage of pupils gaining A* to B grades at A-level in the summer, and the percentage returning A* and A grades at GCSE.

Headteacher Jenn Plews said: “Our focus on a personalised, inclusive and innovative curriculum is key to the success of the students and the exceptional progress they make at our school.

"All credit to the hard work and commitment of our students, who aspire to be the best they can be.

“We have fantastic teachers who seek not only to ignite the interests of our students, but also to encourage intellectual curiosity.

"We promote a belief that talent isn’t fixed and students must be prepared to learn, unlearn and relearn subject knowledge to build up their memory power and resilience.

“Students of all abilities and backgrounds attained exceptionally high standards in 2016 and we are particularly proud of the achievement of our disadvantaged students, who outperformed all other students. "Social justice is one of our principal values, and we try to do our best by every child.

"As an experienced National Teaching school and multi-academy trust we are passionate about collaborating and supporting schools across the north to deliver an excellent educational system."
