A COMMUNITY dental team is all smiles after scooping a national award for its work helping patients with dementia.
The team from Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Centre for Mental Health at Airedale Hospital, won the accolade in the Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friendly Awards.
"We're absolutely delighted," said Allison Bingham, for the trust.
"We always aim to ensure that patients and carers using the service have the best possible experience and that oral health is still a priority to people living with dementia.
"An environment which is calm and supportive has been created for those with the condition."
Measures introduced by the team include a dental passport, which prevents patients or carers having to answer multiple questions during visits to the dentist.
Also, team members have completed college courses to improve their knowledge of dementia.
