SUTTON actors are returning to the most popular fairytale of all for this year pantomime.

The village’s Green Hut Theatre Company will present Cinderella tonight, tomorrow and Saturday night, with a matinee on Saturday afternoon.

Green Hut regular Roxanne Williams plays the title role of a girl who has to charm the prince at his ball before midnight when she will turn back into a scullery maid.

The ugly sisters will appear a little different than usual if members of the audience look very closely under the gaudy make-up.

Phil Smith, one of the Amateurs’ regular dames, is being joined by Rebekah Johnston, who is making her debut both with Green Hut and in the role of Dame.

The pair recently performed together in Skipton Musical theatre’s production of the rock ‘n’ roll sci-fi musical Return To The Forbidden Planet.

Another Sutton regular was in the Skipton musical, Emma-Jayne Byers, and she will be back down-to-earth for her leading role in Cinderella.

Emma-Jayne plays the principal boy, Prince Charming, who with help from servant Dandini (Charlotte Harrison) sets to find out Cinderella.

Also make an appearance will be the stage parents of both Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Cinderella’s wicked stepmother the Baroness is played by Katrina Knights, real-life wife of David Knights who isplaying Prince Charming’s father, the King.

Meanwhile David’s stage wife is played by Doreen Smith, real-life mother of dame Phil and real-life grandmother of principal boy Emma-Jayne.

And Roxanne Williams, who plays Cinderella, is the real-life partner of Phil.

Buttons is played by James Jennings, whose siblings, mother and grandmother have for many years been regulars with the Green Hut Theatre Company.

James - who played the role of Buttons in Sutton's Cinderella more than a decade ago – recently played a leading role in the group’s stage adaptation of hit BBC sitcom The Vicar Of Dibley.

The Fairy Godmother is this time a teenage trainee, played by Frankie Tetley, who is determined to pass a final exam by giving Cinderella her happy-ever-after.

The panto chorus is made up mostly of children who attend Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company, the group’s junior section.

The Cinderella production team is director Phil Smith, musical director David Boddy and choreographer Emma-Jayne Byers.

Cinderella was the first pantomime to be penned by Sutton’s panto writing duo, David Knights and Phil Smith, just over a decade ago.

They went on to tackle well-known tales like Dick Whittington, Snow White and Aladdin, as well as stories not often turned into pantos, like A Christmas Carol and Alice In Wonderland.

This year they have returned to the original script, tweaking and updating it.

Cinderella will be staged tonight to Saturday at 7.15pm in Sutton Village Hall, and only, Saturday at 2.15pm.

Tickets cost £8 (£7 concessions) by calling 01535 632289.

The Green Hut Theatre Company will stage the pop musical Electric Dreams next April.
