ON-call firefighters are being sought to serve at Silsden.

The West Yorkshire brigade is recruiting at the Elliott Street site and eight other standby stations.

Mainly daytime cover is needed, but also some weekend stints.

On-call crew members must live or work within a mile of the fire station or be able to reach the premises within five minutes of receiving an emergency alert.

They are paid to work on a standby system and complete the same training as full-time firefighters.

Nick Smith, area manager in charge of operations response for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, said: "Our on-call firefighters are ordinary people who are passionate about helping their community and do an extraordinary job in protecting it.

"They show incredible commitment, not only for making themselves available to respond to emergencies, but also in ensuring their fitness and skills are maintained at the highest level."

An open day is being held at Silsden Fire Station on Saturday (Feb 18), from 9am to 1pm, when serving firefighters will be on hand to talk about the role and answer questions.
