SKIPTON Girls' High School headteacher Jenn Plews has thanked members of its 'Friends' group for their efforts in raising thousands of pounds for the school.

The Friends of SGHS raised £750 at a recent 'race night', to boost the total they have given the school to more than £3,000 in under a year since the group was formed.

The money will go towards a £5,000 scheme to revamp the learning and resource centre.

Mrs Plews said: "I am very grateful to Friends of SGHS who have worked hard in a short space of time to provide extra learning resources to make much-needed improvements in our library. I warmly welcome parents to get involved as such a group encourages parents to fully participate in school life.”

The race night, held in the Dame Judi Dench Studio, included footage on a large screen, together with professional commentary, a bar and home-made food.

Parents have also volunteered to run Skipton’s Town Hall café and organised bag packing, quizzes and raffles.

Future plans include a summer fair and social evenings for new parents. More information on the group is available from Mrs S Evans on 01756 70760 or e-mail friends@sghs.org.uk
