POPULAR choirs from both sides of the Yorkshire/Lancashire border unite for a concert on March 4.

The Cobbydale Singers from Silsden and Nelson Arion Male Voice Choir will perform at Christ Church in Skipton from 7.30pm.

Organisers say the Nelson Arion Male Voice Choir is an integral part of the musical landscape of East Lancashire.

A spokesman said: “The choir has a distinguished history and has won many festivals and competitions, including Langollen International Eisteddfod, the BBC Wales Choir of the Year competition, The Elgar Trophy, and many more.

“Their musical director Frank Smith is retiring in the summer after 60 years with the choir, 50 as musical director.

“The choir are holding a series of concerts from January to June 2017 to mark Mr Smith’s retirement.”

The Cobbydale Singers say they are delighted to join with Nelson Arion for the special concert at Christchurch and play a part in the celebration of Frank’s outstanding contribution over the past 60 years.

Profits from the concert will go to the Christ Church ‘Church Fund’. Tickets £5 each by contacting Elaine Isherwood on 01535 655361.

The Cobbydale Singers last November teamed up with the Steeton Male Voice Choir to perform a joint concert including Christmas songs at the Octagon club in Keighley.
