RENEWED plans to build 15 new homes in Cononley have been given the go-ahead, despite fears it will result in 'car carnage'.

A councillor at Craven District Council's planning committee said they had no choice but to approve outline plans for the site off Meadow Lane, as planning consent had been given just three years ago.

Consent for the homes was given in 2014, but permission has since expired without a full application submitted.

Now, with renewed outline consent, the scheme, by Enoch Harrison and Son, will see 15 homes, including six affordable,

being built on the largely grassland site to the east of Meadow Close, with the Skipton to Leeds railway line at the north east boundary.

Cononley Parish Council, which objected to the development, described the additional traffic generated by the new houses as leading to 'car carnage' at busy times of the day.

It pointed out it was on a main route to the school, just 100 yards away, and would pose a severe safety risk to pedestrians and schoolchildren.

It added that since 2014, a number of other housing developments had been approved in the immediate area, all feeding into the same road network.

But at last week's planning meeting, Cllr John Dawson said as planning consent had been given in the past, he could see no reasons to turn the application down.

Cllr Robert Mason however criticised developers for letting planning consent lapse.
