INSPIRED by reading the novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, pupils at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Barnoldswick, made some imaginative creations of the book's main character.

Class 3 teacher Mrs Dixon said: "They loved the book so much that they felt inspired to create their own versions of the Iron Man at home."

Headteacher Natalie Wood said: "Here at St Joseph's we aim to inspire our children to develop a love of reading.

"Never before have I seen the impact of a book take off like this. Each child has shown true imagination in their design. Some have retold sections of the story, others have drawn pictures.

"The children recently showed their creations in an assembly with parents and were rightly congratulated for their work completed at home.

"We are very grateful to all the families who have spent time helping their child at home and spending some quality time together on a creative piece of homework."
