GLUSBURN children’s partnership with elderly people living locally has led to a cash windfall for their school.

Glusburn Community Primary School has this term received a “very generous” donation of £200 from Anchor Housing.

The money was in gratitude for the school choir’s performances at Anchor’s nearby Townend and Sunnybank sheltered housing complexes over the Christmas period.

Glusburn School head Richard Hunt said: “This money will be used to support further choir events and the music curriculum.

“Again this demonstrates our school’s healthy links with the local community, and to the children that you can achieve great things when you work and sing together.”

The school has forged strong links with the Anchor residents over the past few months with a variety of performances and activities.

This includes the Knitting Nanas group, in which residents of Sunnybank, teach children how to knit after school every Monday

As well as being a social occasion, the sessions teach the children fine motor coordination, reading instructions, making calculations and problem solving.
