SKIPTON business Whitethorn Telecom is urging Craven companies to take advantage of European funding aimed at helping businesses improve their digital technology.

The European Union has allocated £8.5 million to the Digital Enterprise Programme for businesses across the Leeds city region, which includes Craven.

The programme is offering Digital Growth Vouchers to small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) which can be spent on hardware such as advanced telephone systems.

Jonathan Sharpe of Whitethorn Telecom on the Carleton Road Industrial Estate, said: “The scheme enables businesses to claim vouchers ranging from £1,000 to £5,000, which can be used to purchase IT hardware including telecom systems.

Business owners are often unaware of technologies that make a noticeable and measurable effect on their operations and bottom line. An IP based telecom system can dramatically improve the efficiency of a business, provide simple solutions to communication issues and deliver real savings."

He added: “The £8.5 million pot may sound like a lot, but this fund covers businesses across a huge area - including Bradford, Leeds, York and Harrogate. Taking advantage of it is a great way to boost your company’s growth and give you an edge on your rivals.”

The Digital Enterprise Programme is offering funding up to 40 per cent of the total value of an investment, with the balance paid by the applicant.

Its aim is to help eligible firms access and use digital information and communication technology to achieve business growth and raise competitiveness.
