TYRO Training is offering free computerised bookkeeping and payroll courses for people actively seeking employment.

The subsidised courses, using the popular SAGE package, are designed to provide people with desirable skills for employers. The fully funded offer applies to people on Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit.

Vicky Whitehead, business development manager at Tyro Training in Skipton said: “These subsidised courses provide people with desirable skills for potential employers and give a huge boost to jobseekers’ CVs. The SAGE package is widely used across businesses, and this is a great opportunity for those who may not usually be able to afford training.”

The bookkeeping and payroll courses are delivered through workshops where individuals work independently through a comprehensive set of learning materials, while also having the benefit of support from an experienced tutor.

At the end of the course, learners can also opt to take an International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB) examination, but the exam is not mandatory.

The courses are delivered over 10 weeks, with one three and a half hour session per week. Candidates can choose to attend courses on afternoons or evenings on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

There are three levels for each course, with the usual cost of the introduction level at £160, plus £60 for the exam.

There are also fully funded opportunities for SME businesses to send staff on the courses.
