DISABLED and vulnerable children in Craven will benefit thanks to Tesco's Bags of Help community funding scheme.

Charity Skipton Extended Learning for All (SELFA) was chosen by shoppers to benefit from £5,000 raised from a 5p levy put on plastic bags.

And the money will go towards the charity's Forest School projects, including workshops in Skipton Woods and a two night stay at Eshton Grange, near Gargrave, where children will learn outdoor survival skills.

Emma Pears, SELFA’s charity co-ordinator, said: “We want to thank everyone who used the tokens given to them at the counter to vote for SELFA. Their help ensured that SELFA bagged the top award.”

Linda Crompton, Tesco’s head of community said: “Bags of Help has been a fantastic success. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from our customers. The great thing about Bags of Help is that local people are invited to decide how the money will be spent in their community. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life.”
