STUDENTS in their last year at The Skipton Academy spent a month fundraising for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

The year 11 girls asked for donations and sold cards and wristbands in the run up to Christmas to raise £150 for the hospice.

Alexandra Webb and Courtney Brewster, part of the group, said they thought Manorlands was a great charity to support.

"Over the course of a month we sold wristbands, badges and staff donated money rather than send Christmas cards to each other," said Alexandra.

Courtney added: "We managed to raise £150 and we could not be more proud. We wanted to do this as a group before we left The Skipton Academy for something to remember us all coming together, and Manorlands Hospice needs every penny to give vital support to those who need it."

Hospice fundraiser, Karen Jones, thanked the girls for thinking of Manorlands.

"It was lovely to see a local school supporting a local cause, and this money will continue to help provide incredible care for people in the craven community. We would love to work with more schools in the Craven area and would encourage others to contact us about working with Manorlands Hospice, there are so many ways we can work with schools. Our sincere thanks go to the students, and staff for raising the money for such a worthy cause."
