A NOSTALGIC event with dancing, military displays and vintage stalls will take place in Appletreewick this weekend.

The 1940s event - on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 - will be centred around the village's Craven Arms pub and its grounds, and will also include a range of stalls and games including coconut shy, tombolas and raffles, a ladies vintage stall and cakes.

Organiser, Tom Powell, said hopes were high for the event which is not only held in one of the most beautiful villages in Craven, but also raises funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

"For enthusiasts there will be a wide range of classic and military vehicles. There will be live pyrotechnic displays staged by our local Haworth Home Guard unit and further allied re-enactors will have camps set up, such as the East Yorkshire regiment and American airborne units."

There will also be a frontline display from living history group, the Dukes at War, based on the Duke of Wellington's Regiment.

Vehicle convoys, parades and acts of remembrance, and even German spies, will also feature over the weekend.

For those who like to dance, a marquee with 40s music will run all day, with vintage vocalists and dance lessons for beginners, and food and drink will be on offer at the pub and the NAAFI bar, with guest beers.

A dance will take place in the Cruck Barn on Saturday, tickets on the door, from 7pm. It will include entertainer Kitty LaMare and a pie and pea supper.

"The Poppy Appeal will be supported over the course of the event as their aim is to help those who have served their country. Last year we raised over £730, a total we hope to beat this year," said Mr Powell

Parking will be available at the nearby Mason's Campsite, for £5 per car for the day. For those wishing to make a weekend of it, there is plenty of nearby accommodation including The Mason's Campsite, Howgill Lodge, Haworth Farm and The New Inn.
